How To Measure Windows For Shades
Measuring is easy
Don't worry, if you still need help our Design Consultants are available! At BlindsMagic, we make it simple. With these measuring instructions, you’ll get it right the first time, saving you time, money, and sanity.
INSIDE MOUNT
CHECK DEPTH
Measure the depth as shown. Window frame depth should be at least 2.5".
If less, the valance will extend beyond the frame, outside mount is recommended.
MEASURE WIDTH
Measure the inside surface at the Top, Middle, and Bottom. Use the shortest width of your three measurements as the working width.
Order width = the shortest of the three measurements
If your window measurements fall between eighths of an inch, round down to the nearest 1/8" for width. For example: Width: 30-1/16" would round down to 30".
MEASURE HEIGHT
Measure the inside surface at the Left, Center, and Right. Use the longest height of your three measurements as the working width.
Order height = the longest of the three measurements
If your window measurements fall between eighths of an inch, round up to the nearest 1/8" for height. For example: Height: 30-1/16" would round up to 30-1/8".
OUTSIDE MOUNT
Measure external width and height of window frame.
Order width = window width + 6"
Order Height = window height + 6"
Please add 6" to the width and height of the window frame for your specific use environment and shading requirements.
Here are some quick tips to remember:
Inside Mount:
Order Width = the smallest measurement
Order Height = the largest measurement
*The window frame depth should be at least 2.5". If the depth is less than 2.5", the valance will extend beyond the window frame.
Outside Mount:
Order width = window width + 6"
Order Height = window height + 6"
*Consider use environment and shading requirements for effective window coverage, light control, privacy, and aesthetics.
*Please measure the window itself - - not the old shades --to ensure a perfect fit.
